Sebastian LaRoche is a classic mercenary – he works for the highest bidder and always focuses on the run at hand and his commitment is strictly proportional to the paycheck. You pay him well and he goes the extra mile to get the job done. Sebastian is a level-headed and no-nonsense -type of a guy who never underestimates his opposition, never takes his employer’s word at face value nor advertises his full skill set to even his fellow runners. Those who know him, know that at desperate times Sebastian most certainly has an ace up in his sleeve. Or three.

Ilyana, ex-corporate runner

Ilyana used to be in a fast response tactical team of the Aizu-Shoto corporation. Her services were no longer needed after an abysmal failure killed half of the team in a routine muscle job. Ilyana was not responsible for the botched mission, but the whole team was fired nevertheless. Understandably Ilyana harbors a grudge against her old employer and refuses any runs associated somehow with Aizu-Shoto – unless Aizu-Shoto happens to be the target of the run.

A tough and disciplined woman, Ilyana lacks the ability of appropriate emotional responses and fails in most social situations although her looks deceive that and forgives her many too much. She is notoriously it and exercises twice a day – even when doing runs. She can outrun most males and rumors say her leg muscles are enhanced and this allows her to reach and maintain inhuman running speeds.

Mia Miles

Mia Miles is a techno-savvy street samurai able to run solo missions for rich clients. She has shown a remarkable calmness and control under heavy pressure and some even say that she is in fact a cyborg and not just an augmented human being. While her professional self as a combat-oriented runner has earned her a solid reputation, her personal life is a complete and utter mess with both ex-girlfriends and ex-boyfriends popping up at the most unfortunate times. Her ability to keep and nurture relationships is at the level of a prepubescent and her most vengeful ex-lovers/ex-companions consider her pretty much just another sociopath with little or no regard for the feelings or well-being of anyone else other than Mia Miles herself.

Work on this particular illustration was begun in 2005, then forgotten, revisited and altered in 2013 and 2016 and finally decided it’s now ready to be published.

Milla Gemina, Elven Street Samurai

Milla is a female elven street samurai – by no means a unique combination, but rather rare nevertheless. Despite being one tough chick, Milla is exceptionally athletic and she has the reflexes of a hummingbird. Milla never complains about anything and her life philosophy borders that of pre-defined fatalism. She can take care of herself just fine, but prefers working in a team towards a common goal. She just loves it when a plan comes together and when all the comrades played their roles to their full ability!
