An illustration of a lonely respite by the sea. This particular place is located near the Wywold fishing village facing north towards the open sea of Akron Bay. A place of solitude and meditation Wywold Sanctum has been in near constant use for over three centuries. The sanctum is hard to reach. One would have to travel many kilometres from the nearest village Wywold in harsh rocky marshland in which horses are of no use and pack animals falter. Renvar Point is an inhospitable island at the northernmost tip of land when one has taken a direct north-east course from Wywold through thick woods and marshland.
But still the place has been travelled to by adventurers, common people and royalty alike for legends say that the sanctum is sacred and magical. It is said that whoever comes here for prolonged times of quiet and peaceful meditation and truly repents their doubtful deeds will find spiritual benefits. Old wives’ tales or not, the place will still grant beautiful and serene ocean view for the weary traveller.
The sanctum is not maintained by anyone nor are there any servants to attend to your needs. There are common sleeping rooms capable of housing about a dozen people at any given time and two large meditation chambers; one at the ground level and a smaller one at the second floor with vast thick windows offering a panoramic view of the surroundings. The place is usually rather damp because of the ocean but for some strange reason the entire Renvar Point island is hardly ever windy even if the ocean’s fury is at it’s mightiest just around the next cliffs. This phenomena can not quite be understood even by the hardy fishers of nearby Wywold who have generations of quiet knowledge of the adverse weather conditions of the sea.
Name: Lady Melia Sur-Romano, Countess of Wywold
Location: Wywold, Akron
The wife of count Roberto Romano, current ruler of the small county of Wywold in Akron. Lady Melia is of Wywold origin herself and has been married to Roberto for 8 years. Lady Melia is originally from a small fishing village named Altenwold near the border of Akron and Ferria. She served as a cook for Roberto during Roberto’s initiation ritual when he was appointed the Count of Wywold by the king. Roberto was so taken with the excellent food prepared by Melia that he summoned the cooks in the dining hall and applauded them. She was soon selected as Roberto’s personal chef and they were married two years later.
She was already adept at using knifes, fishing hooks, tridents and such from her teen years. She wished to become as fearsome combatant as her mate and after some rather loud confrontations with her husband, they came to an agreement: she will get receive the best training available in Wywold in exchange for preparing meals for Roberto every three days. A deal was struck and years and years later Lady Melia still prepares her husband a meal every three days and has become one of the most adept combatants in the county. Their deal is well known in the county and oftentimes the people of Wywold make jokes about doing something every third day.
She is a balancing factor to Roberto as well. His harsh and stern style of ruling is mellowed down and smoothed by Lady Melia. While she is not an easy lady to deal with, she does understand that uncalled for or excessive harshness is counter productive. Lady Melia is currently herself teaching the art of swordmanship in the castle courtyard one day a week. While technically competent, agile and well-equipped, she severely lacks one of the basic training of true warriors – facing death during actual combat.
Name: Count Roberto Romano
Location: Wywold, Akron
A stern and iron-handed ruler, Count Romano is actually from Ferria making him the the only foreign-born count in Akron. The county is named Wywold and the seat of power is located in the city of Wywold which is the only population center of note in the entire county. While a small county, count Romano is still to be taken seriously as he is as ruthless as he is cunning. Also, he has a number of powerful allies in Ferria and through some of them Roberto has been able to import superior blades, shields and armor with which his personal troops have been armed. It’s unclear how the high-end weapons have been paid since due to their price Ferrian weapons are usually only available to wealthy nobles and merchants.
While Wywold is not that important due to it’s small size and low population, it’s hundreds of small fishing villages are a major source of food for the entire kingdom. Dried and smoked fish from Wywold is exported to all around the kingdom – and to neighboring countries even – and is both a nutritious and abundant food, it’s also considered a delicacy. Many fishing villages are proud of their techniques in preparing the fish and many villages have their own unique signature methods. Like the mildly sweet cold-smoked sole fishes of the Heienwold village that are considered a pricey delicacy both in Calishem and Ferria alike.
