Claudia Mezole

A character illustration for any fantasy-themed role-playing game setting. I made this a decade ago but never gotten around to actually putting it online. The character was designed to fit my own fantasy world Cresia.


Name: Claudia Mezole
Race: human
Location: Cuervo Garrac, Ferria

Miss Mezole is a free lancing (ie. not part of any shady organization) burglar concentrating her thieving efforts to the southern port cities of Ferria but mostly she operates in the city of Cuervo Garrac based solely on the fact that it is the biggest of these cities. Cuervo Garrac is an ideal place to one of her profession because it is commercial nexus point for trade routes between Crovascia, Tharia and Calishem and as such there are dozens of merchant ships docked in there at any given time and the crews of those ships spend much deserved free time in the city’s many recreational locales. Many of whom get drunk and less careful about their belonging. The dock areas are off limits to free lancers as they are being controlled by a group of professional criminals; just try lifting a purse there and see for yourself. But shady operations around and in of the many taverns and inns are not controlled by any particular group and that’s where most free lancers operate.

Claudia is a flowing and bubbling personality with a hint of fatalism and nihilism thrown in for good measure. She doesn’t think herself as particularly good when it comes to her profession but in fact she is one of the best operating in the area. Her modus operandi is pretty classic: she picks a lone target who rents a room, waits until such a time the target is most probably not going disturb her and simply cleans the room of such valuables that are not identifiable. But come a lucrative enough mark she is not above direct confrontation in a dark alley provided the mark is heavily intoxicated and thus not able to properly defend. Or identify the assailant. She usually works alone. Any proceeds that she makes are simply spent in local joints although she has managed to save a small fortune stashed in a location only she knows.


Jorge Gel, Ship Captain

Name: Jorge Gel
Race: human
Location: Wherever his ship ‘Raimelho‘ happens to be; port of call is Cuervo Garrac in Ferria

Jorge Gel was born in the port city of Cuervo Garrac in Ferria to a family full of sailors – some being accomplished veteran seafarers and others less so but pretty much all of his family members has a long history on the seas. He spent his early childhood aboard his uncle’s small cog and already at the age of ten he was baptized in combat against pirates trying to hijack the ship; luckily no lives were lost at that time although the cargo was. It was a defining moment in Jorge’s life as he then and there realized his entire future would be aboard sailing ships until his demise and he gladly accepted it.

As an adult Jorge spent many years on and off many merchant ships traveling the coastal regions of Ferria and Calishem mainly and saving any and all earnings he got in order to some day get a ship of his own. Finally at the age of 29 he bought the wrecked cog Raimelho from an old merchant Tirrana Welmius who called it quits and retired after defying one storm too many. Welmius did not have enough money to get his ship repaired and instead offered it to the Gel family – who were a known family of seafarers – and managed to convince Jorge that Raimelho would have many decades ahead of it after some simple repairs. As it happens, repairing the damaged ship cost far less than what the old merchant had assumed leaving the new owner with some excess capital to start his own business.

Now at the age of 42 Jorge is a veteran captain. His ship has served him well and is still in a fine condition thanks to Jorge’s interest in both maintaining it and understanding it’s limitations as well as his own. He has amassed a respectable fortune during his years as a merchant captain although there has been darker times involving lost cargo and lost crew members. He probably would have enough to get him a bigger ship but he is quite happy and satisfied with his current one.

As a person Captain Gel is stern and just with a twist of quickly cooling temperament and a quirky sense of humor. He considers himself a reasonable and upright man and takes great pride in having achieved a reputation as a fair and trustworthy merchant in all the ports he frequents. Captain Gel has also frequently paid his crew bonuses for runs that go well. When on land, Captain Gel resides in the heart of the Cuervo Garrac city on a mansion (named Gelanto with a long and important history in the city) owned by his family.  He spends a total of 3-4 months a year in Cuervo Garrac between merchant runs getting new deals agreed upon and spending time to maintain the ship.


Thurn Eibor


Name: Thurn Eibor
Race: Human
Location: Ferria

While in general the people of Ferria are not particularly understanding of magical wielding wizards and favour the scientific and mechanical pioneers much more, they do tolerate the existence of magic and practitioners of magical arts in their realm. Especially if the wielders are upfront and open about their abilities and do not use subtle trickery to manipulate the world.

At the age of six, Thurn Eibor was already a potent practitioner of raw manifestations of magical energy and his uncle realized that the boy was a rarity in Ferria and that he needed guidance and tutoring to handle and cultivate his abilities. His own family didn’t extend his uncle’s understanding and would have rather sought out means to suppress the boy’s abilities. His uncle and his father came into understanding after an unfortunate accident when Thurn accidentally burnt down their barn while unsuccessfully practising harnessing his abilities. The uncle and Thurn started a long journey to the fabled lands of Myrna where they hoped Thurn would find help in mastering his talents. Some months later in Myrna Thurn’s uncle did find a willing mentor and Thurn entered the service of a renowned wizard Chalcumus only at the age of 8 being the youngest pupil he had ever taught.

Fast forward ten years and Thurn and his uncle returned to Ferria and the timid boy had developed to a mighty magician able to manipulate forces way beyond the comprehension of the commoner.

Nowadays Thurn is well known in Ferria and particularly liked because of his mastery of elemental magic – a form of tangible and easy-to-grasp magic with a visual appeal as well. The are not many magicians in Ferria and thus it has been easy for Thurn to make a living hiring his talents to actual labour and entertainment alike. He mostly works in the bigger cities and towns where the attitudes towards his abilities are a little big better tolerated than in the countryside.

Thurn is a talkative and witty person with a cultivated aura of confidence and reassuring presence. Boosted with convincing, clear and audible voice he is surely a crowd-pleaser if there ever was one. But in Ferria his lack of education on matters technical and scientific is a clear disadvantage and a reason he has never held any important position within Ferria and is likely never going to be offered one either no matter his expertise in matters magical.



Barracus Inctal, a boatswain


Name: Barracus Inctal
Race: Human
Location: Cuervo Garrac, Ferria

Barracus is a trusted crew member (boatswain in charge of the cargo room) of the merchant ship Raimelho. He has been a crew member in the ship for a few years now and has gained the trust of the ship’s captain and owner Jorge Gel.

Barracus is a typical person of southern Ferrian descent. His upbringing has taught him modesty, respect of life and harmony. As a man he is quiet and his demeanor is modest. He is erroneously considered to be extremely shy by those who do not know him. He just keeps his opinions to himself and works hard instead. He is the kind of person who makes things happen instead of constant bitching.

Barracus is an orphan and has no siblings that he is aware. He moved to Cuervo Garrac with his uncle ten years ago but after his uncle perished from a terminal illness he has been living alone near the dock area of the city. He met his future employer Jorge Gel by accident and Gel was at the time looking for a few able men to man his next voyage. A deal was struck to see how Barracus would fare at sea and he’s been a regular member of Gel’s crew since that day.

As a boatswain it is Barracus’ responsibility to not only make sure that the cargo is loaded and unloaded properly but also to make sure that the goods are secure during the voyage and that the goods arrive as promised to whatever destination they’re heading. When it comes to the space below main deck (ie. the cargo hold), Barracus gives the orders. He has not been able to gather much with respect to personal assets as he commonly gambles and drinks his salary as soon as he gets it. Being a boatswain is a life that suits him just fine making him content and thankful – even happy with how things have turned out.

Dano Tavelo


Name: Dano Tavelo
Race: Human
Location: Cuervo Garrac, Ferria

Dano is a regular crew member of the merchant vessel Raimelho. Not a sailor by any stretch of the imagination he still likes to see new lands and finds travelling via a boat much less cumbersome and time-consuming than travelling by land. Besides, boats can get him to places horses can not. An adventurer by choice, he is skilled enough as a wizard to make a decent living and can thus spend his income to cover costs of travelling.

Cuervo Garrac is the birth city of Dano and he still lives in this lovely and broad-minded trade center and bustling port city which he considers the best place in Cresia. His childhood friend Jorge Gel is the owner of the merchant ship Raimelho and regularly employ Dano’s services in exchange of free passage to exotic trade ports in Calishem, Crovascia and Tharia. Dano is skilled in the magical arts of Cosmology and Biomancy and dabble a bit in the first steps of Naturalism. During boat travels, his skills in healing and keeping the crew alive and well are most valued.

As a person, Dano is open-minded, prone to making playful mischief and has a tendency of well meaning verbal wittiness. His most valued lessons in life are the ones in which he finds himself to be misunderstood by others. Verbally talented and not afraid to present his case even in the presence of powerful individuals, he has gained some slight reputation as a defender of the oppressed and wronged in Cuervo Garrac.

Jandro Faebianus


Name: Jandro Faebianus
Race: Human
Location: Ferria

An intrepid explorer and adventurer, Jandro Fabianus is also THE Jandro Fabianus who found the fabled and legendary city of Andar located somewhere in the border region of Ferria and Akron. His reputation exceeds that of the rulers of both countries and his recent adventures are on the lips of men, women and children alike. Jandro doesn’t have a permanent place of residence as he is truly dedicated to exploration and driven by hunger for adventure.

Jandro is of Ferrian origin and as such considers himself far above people from neighboring regions. He is educated and knowledgeable both in science and myth and holds a position of Chancellor to the Triumvirate. A highly respected position in Ferria, chancellor is a person whose deeds are so great that his presence and opinion is honored by the powers that be. Traditionally chancellors in Ferria are provided free lodging and upkeep anywhere in Ferria in exchange of support and opinions when asked. Not a title of great power in itself but surely a title of honor and respect.

Jandro Faebianus spent 11 years of his life searching for the fabled city of Andar and evidently found it 5 years ago during an expedition that tolled in loss of life of half of the crew in the expedition. He brought back with him fabulous artifacts and treasures and he and his trusted associates are the only ones who know the location of Andar and how to reach it. Rumor has it that Jandro secretly gave some of the artifacts to the members of the triumvirate and that those artifacts were of magical origin, but naturally this may just be tall tales of tavern wenches and old wives.

Benjamin, Cleric of Aldamar

Location: Southern Akron, Northern Calishem, Ferria

As a traveling cleric of Aldamar (the wise and benevolent deity of righteousness, common sense and justice), Benjamin is always on the move; rarely staying more than a week in one spot unless particularly needed. He owns nothing but the items he can carry and he eats and drinks what people of kind hearts offer him. A true believer in the ways of the Aldamar, Benjamin has devoted his entire life to offer help on any issues in which anyone is perceived to be wronged. Most clerics of Aldamar don’t have any real authority, but their opinions and help is often obeyed by the commoners and sometimes even the nobility of the land. He follows no plan to his travels, but doesn’t venture outside the comfort zone of where Aldamar is most respected and revered as a deity.

Benjamin is a thoughtful man, careful in the use of his voice and humble in his demeanor. He has literally hundreds of men, women and children owing him their gratitude and thus he has gathered a solid reputation as a man of honor and dignity. His wisdom is a combination of experience, emotionally detached logic and applied common sense that are all based on the knowledge of the law of the lands and their lords. A common conflict too frequently on his hands, is when the land lords do act in ways that the common folk don’t feel is right or fair. Usually the cleric can only relay the message of the disgruntled commoners to whomever it is who is doing the wronging, but other times he himself explains the commoners the wisdom behind the decisions of their superiors since the common man rarely is able to see the big picture beyond his own homestead. Violence is not a tool commonly employed by Aldamar’s clerics, but not at all forbidden or frowned upon by the deity himself if nothing else would bring justice.
